                                             KhamLianLal Zou @Khams Zotal

There is a road which remained unrepair’s, the name of the road is famous itself with the dust and muddy, its name is “Churachandpur to Sugnu Road” some described the road as “the only road which is painted like a gold color”. But actually is it not a real gold painted road, instead it is fully cover with thick dust and muddy from season to season. Though the areas have a great public leader it remains stable for development and that is why people called the area as “The Dark continent”.

Why should we keep mum when things are not undertaken, unappropriated management, when things are ignored, the needs of the people is not met, we don’t deserved to let live under such terrible circumstance if we stand and work together.  Peoples living within the 28 Km suffered a lot, It is true one can wonder why it is not among the Guinness Book of World Records as one of the dustiest and muddiest road ever in the states, or one can worry-why isn’t amongst Wonders of the World because the roads looks like a well painted road with the worthy gold and silver.

Churachandpur to Sugnu road (well know with Tuning road) is connecting Chandel District, Thoubal district and our closest-neighboring country Myanmar without passing through Imphal or any other district Headquarters. It is the only life-line of the people. The road connects many villages as much as more than 60 villages. The said road also runs through three MLA’s constituencies, namely; - Singngat A/C, Saikot A/C & Chandel A/C.

In 2009 it was once declared that Churachandpur to Sugnu road as a State Highway, when it is compare with other State Highway roads, it is not worth to be call as a State Highway with its thickness of dust during winter season. If accident is prone in the area while there is no muddy-dust on the road, then one cannot avoid saying the road connecting Churachandpur to Sugnu road is prone to accident.

I was born in 1990 in a small Village, situated within Churachandpur to Sugnu (which is 17 Km from Churachandpur town). Till then, I can honestly say I have seen a newly construction of pucca-road in the said road. That was may be during the childhood time when me and my friends crazy with the famous local made “Sing-Gari” (Wooden bus one will push and the other will drive within the village).

On the other hand, the road isn’t only the essential needs for the area inhabitant; it is also an important road as it links with Churachandpur district Headquarter for procuring essential commodities and selling agricultural and natural resource products.  It is the road where the finest and famous Serou-Leingoi (Serou Sand) supplier trucks passes by every day and night.

For instance, the MLA’s within its constituency took initiative to repairs the roads but it remained fully unpaired till today leading the people a hopeless living, depression and being neglected when it is compare with the other roads within the state. The current MLA’s of 60-Singngat A/C, The MDC Sangaikot TD Block itself is also from the area inhabitants. This is one of the common concerns of all the people when it talks about the road. We do not blame the entire political leader on these issues as a responsible citizen of the country, I took as it is our responsibility to let know the government as well the people to let know the point where we are standing today and open any eye to the needy society we are living in.

Besides, the road Churachandpur to Sugnu road is well known with its safest and peaceful journey for the travelers as well the people living within the areas. But now and then, the road are totally covered with almost 1 feet inches of dust during winter season and it was too thick with muddy that a farmer can sow a seeds on the roads especially on rainy season.

Apart from the road, there are so many problems faced by the people in that areas, the problem may be of no proper electricity supply, no public health-care like pharmacy; dispensary/PHC, in case of an emergency to safe one life, one need to travel a long distance either rush to Sugnu or Churachandpur District Hospital or any private clinic.

While our country India is trying the best to provide proper and equal education to all children below the ages of 14, at least it reach to almost all citizens of the county-both in urban and rural areas. But its seems the schemes that comes from the central government like SSA; ICDS etc. couldn’t reach to the people. That leads the children’s thirsty for education.

Furthermore, parents were unable to effort sending their children’s’ in the one and only private institution available (Agape High School, Sangaikot village) that can reach from nursery to class-x standard, since people living in the area mainly depend on one-season (cultivation once in a year). The economic status will remain undeveloped unless proper roads, electricity, good institution, availability of public health care; media like newspaper, cellular connection is easy accessible and in such people may no longer called the area as “Dark continent”

There are many officers and public leaders like the MLA of 60- Singngat A/C, the MDC of Sangaikot A/C, MP of Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency are all from the Sagaikot TD Block. One may wonder why the road remain unpaired since many years; and this is the time for all to seek a newly construction of proper roads and replace the gold painted road with a black tar. Thought the road has its dust on winter and mud on rainy season, it has a continuous movement for the bus to service and it is always the lifeline of the people, trucks with a full loaded Serou-leingoi, and a private motor bikes and vehicles will keep on passing by, how nice it will be

If the road remain unpaired and the government along with the political leaders do not take up any action on this matter, it is clear that, thousands and thousands lifeline of the people will be seriously disturb, many school/college going students carrier will definitely be spoil, the health condition of the people will be more like to get illness/sickness with the daily breadth type of dust which is breathing in- breathing out by the people living in the areas.

“We need equality, if there is a wills, there is away, and if there is a wills to repairs the road, we are supposed to step foot on the newly construction of road, the area need to develop like others did, where is the words “equality”?

One fine day I was sitting in the veranda , browsing the net. facebooking and chit-chatting with friends from different corners of the world.  Also had a beautiful morning with the free gift of nature, sun bathing. A group of school going children’s passes by with a full packed of school bags which could be much heavier than their body weights. At the same time I came across one of the unknown author wrote about the problem faced by a school going children’s in today’s world through the server, mentioning about the daily routine that the children’s often carried heavy bag twice day from Mon-Friday while going for the schools. Here comes in my mind, a big question that stunted-up…

What makes your child suffer? A poor education system and its inaccurate norms make child suffer in today’s extremely changing world. We often see in India small children’s going to school with hefty school bags on their delicate shoulders which are much heavier than their body weight. According to research on child body, the limit of school bag weights for children has to be 10-20% of their body weight but today school bag of small developing minds is much heavier than their body weights. ‘We are seeing children carrying up to a quarter of their body weight around, which would never be allowed if you were an adult. Do we ever witness this situation?

One may have seen and I have seen & observed that “Students bring many books and other things that are non-essential. For instance, students in Class I need not bring a compass box and multiple notebooks but we found that a majority of them was bringing six to eight notebooks, all the syllabus books, compass boxes, workbooks, pads and water bottle. This is non-essential item increase weight of school bag. "Carrying heavy school bags has an adverse impact on the health of students.

Now-a-day kids carry heavy bags twice a day and both times they have to carry these hefty bags with them on their shoulders. The problem is worse in rural areas where they have to walk a long distance to school. Many complain of back pain. They also face the risk of serious back deformities,"
Heavy school bags are 'deforming' children as growing numbers suffer irreversible back problems. Growing numbers of children are developing irreversible back deformities because of the weight of the bags they carry to school.

Some of the disadvantage of carrying heavy bags:
1. If children have bigger bags then they tend to fill them. Add on sports equipment, musical instruments and heavy wet weather clothes and children are totally overloaded

2. Children’s skeletons are still growing so carrying heavy bags can cause lasting damage.

3. Carrying a heavy bag on the back causes forward leaning and bad posture, which can lead to improper weight bearing on the spine.

4. Many are carrying their bags on one shoulder or are increasingly carrying them on the crook of their elbow, so are placing a great strain on the spine.

5. A lot of the bags being used are bulky sports bags, which are twice the size of backpacks used a decade ago.

To overcome the situation and take step for the school going children Parents and school, government and non-governmental organization should know this fact that school is not a place of work and children’s are not workers. School is to get knowledge and to develop them self’s but the scenario is exactly opposite because of this heavy bags and hectic schedule future of nation suffering from physical and mental stress.
Here is a one best simple suggestion to all parents who love their children just going to school with those hefty bags will not develop your children’s for that they need proper health and physique and for that we have reduce burden of these heavy bags from their shoulder so they can save energy to read the book or else they will lose their all energy in carrying those heavy bags.

The great nelson Mandela has said “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world” but because of these heavy bags and hectic school schedule education itself acting as a weapon against children’s growth and their future.
One cannot strongly say caring, loving &affectionate the child unless we reduce the weight of bags for the school going children’s and increase the knowledge for a better tomorrow.

Wake up parents and dear teachers- let us remember that “The quality of education is more important than the weight they carry and education and health of the students goes hand-in-hand”
